About the breed
The Ragdoll was developed in California in the 1960s. It is known for its silky semi-long coat, bright blue eyes and a docile nature that gave the breed its name.
Personality
Gentle, affectionate and relaxed. Many Ragdolls go floppy when picked up and love following their people from room to room.
Care tips
Exercise
Gentle daily play and a sturdy cat tree. They are happiest indoors.
Grooming
Their silky coat mats less than most long coats, but a brush once or twice a week keeps it tidy.
Health
Watch for heart disease (HCM) and keep weight in check. Because they are so trusting, keep them safely indoors.
Recommended food
A high-quality complete food with good protein, in measured portions. Ragdolls mature slowly, so growth-stage food is useful for longer.
Fun facts
- Ragdoll kittens are born white and develop their colour over time.
- The breed often follows people around like a puppy.
- They come in colourpoint, mitted and bicolour patterns.
